The James E. Davis Sportsplex
Named after late James E. Davis, the beloved former City Councilman for the district that includes the railyards, the Sportsplex would reserve the area for the enjoyment of the general public in Brooklyn.  The public would have access to facilities for basketball, baseball, soccer as well as a pre-school play area.
The Brooklyn Artists Common
The Brooklyn Artists Common is a plan to celebrate the arts, create jobs, and beautify Brooklyn.  In addition to green space and two play areas the land would include two restaurants, performance space, and two large market buildings which would be used to lease store units to 168 independent artists.
Alternative Land Uses
Two visions for the future of the railyard land are proposed below.  Both plans envision that the land betweed Atlantic Avenue, Carlton, Vanderbilt and Pacific Street should be used for three story affordable housing.  This would be based on the Atlantic Commons housing scheme which has provided beautiful three story brick homes just north of Atlantic Avenue.  The Atlantic Commons Scheme is regarded as one of the most successful housing initiatives ever undertaken by the City of New York.

The two plans envision that a park would occupy the rest of the land.  The two park designs are called The James E. Davis Sportsplex and the Brooklyn Artists Common.  Both have web sites with further pictures (click one of the buttons below).  We are interested in hearing other proposals for the use of the land.  The important thing at this stage is not that any particular plan prevails but rather that there should be a democratic debate.   Members of the community should start to be shown respect.
